Dr Craig Kraffert reviews YonKa Products

Dermatologist Review of YonKa

YonKa was founded in 1957 by botanist brothers from the Mühlethaler family near Paris, France. Together, they perfected a process for stabilizing essential oils in water-based emulsions. This was the beginning of what would become YonKa, a pioneer of esthetic aromatherapy and phytotherapy. Over the years, YonKa has established a reputation for consistently offering high-quality skin care products.

Today, Laboratoires Multaler, the parent company of YonKa, remains located in the Paris region and overseen by the Mühlethaler Family. Laboratoires Multaler continues to formulate, produce and market YonKa products. YonKa products are manufactured in Multaler’s new state of the art 75,000 square foot facility designed to maximize quality and purity of the finished YonKa products. The YonKa brand name is as unique as its products. As with each of the products, the name has meaning and purpose. The name YonKa is a combination of two words: Yon and Ka. Yon means purified water. Ka means eternal force. The combined name describes natural and constant regeneration. The single objective of YonKa is to "give your skin the means of preserving or rediscovering its balance, energy and beauty."

Throughout Europe, YonKa is well known as a premium skin care line. Yonka’s philosophy centers around two key concepts, phytobiointegrity and personalized treatment. Phytobiointegrity refers to YonKa’s desire to have skin derive maximal benefit from all that the plant world has to offer. YonKa thus uses not only fragrant essential plant oils but many complementary ingredients contained in plant and marine extracts such as vitamins, trace elements and fruit acids. YonKa promotes personalized treatment by offering products that help improve a variety of skin conditions and are suitable for virtually all skin types. YonKa’s broad product line offering facilitates regimen personalization.

The philosophy of the company goes beyond skin care. The care of the body as a whole is a guiding concept of YonKa skin care. To have optimally healthy skin, the body must be cared for and healthy as well. The product line is designed to care at some level for both body and skin. YonKa expresses this concept by promoting itself as "a world of fragrance, softness and harmony that combines pleasure and effectiveness for beauty and well-being."

YonKa scientists hail from highly regarded institutions. Research is carried out in state of the art laboratories. The scientists at YonKa are intently focused on research to refine and incrementally improve current state of the art methods for skin treatment and skin care problem management. YonKa’s scientists work in cooperation with dermatologists and estheticians to create an evolving line of products designed to treat body and face. The cooperation of these professionals offers a unique approach to developing optimized solutions for a wide variety of skin care issues. Top quality ingredients are used exclusively. Natural ingredients such as vitamins, fruit acids and trace elements are designed to work synergistically to improve skin’s condition. Essential oils from the plants add the benefit of aromatherapy for healing and nurturing the body as well as the skin.

YonKa uses four botanical therapies in their line of healing and nurturing products.

Aromatherapy basically means to treat with scents. This holistic treatment cares for the body via a variety of botanical oils, each with a different intended purpose or benefit. Aromatherapy is reported to be beneficial for skin care, fatigue, and relieving pain, reducing tension, relaxation and invigorating the body. When essential oils are inhaled, they have been demonstrated to stimulate the brain and nervous system.

Phytotherapy is classified as an alternative healing method. Phyto means plant, so phytotherapy is basically herbal medicine. The benefits of herbal remedies have been with people since ancient times. Ancient Egyptian and Chinese records show that plants and herbs were used to heal a wide range of conditions. The benefits of herbal medicine continue to be used in healing the body as well as the skin.

Marine Therapy uses the vast resources of the earth’s oceans to help improve the body and the skin. The sea is rich in nutrients and has healing properties. Marine extract containing products in the YonKa line are designed to help nourish and heal the skin by utilizing the sea’s resources.

Fruit Acid Therapy uses alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids to rejuvenate the skin. Natural fruit acids are the most effective AHAs for promoting cell turn over and reducing the appearance of lines in the skin. Alpha hydroxy acids work best in combination with beta hydroxy acids to offer the optimum benefit to the skin. A variety of fruit acids are present in the YonKa line.

YonKa products are attractively branded. Most products are packaged in tubes and acryl bottles; jars are avoided. While the packages have a multitude of different colors and appearances, the overall package branding is quite nice and cohesive. YonKa skin care products are not sold in beauty salons or beauty supply stores. The company believes that each client should be served individually to determine the best specific combination of products. This personal attention, typically via an esthetician, is beneficial for selecting the ideal products for each unique skin situation. The esthetician evaluates each client’s skin type as well as any skin conditions needing improvement. Based on this evaluation, the esthetician suggests a skin care regimen to provide personally optimized results.

YonKa has a loyal following. The products are high quality and made in the French spirit of aromatherapy. As the brand celebrates its 50th anniversary this year it is seeing continued growth in popularity. YonKa products are increasingly available at attractive skin care locales and are most worthy of discovery by those new to the brand.
